The dynamic style of Ashihara Karate was first introduced to Sri Lankan practitioners of karate in the year 1985, originating the establishment of Sri Lanka Branch Head Quarters of Ahihara Karate International in Polgahawela, Sri Lanka; the home town of the Branch chief Sensei, Anil Hudasinghe( 4th Dan ).

Sri Lanka Branch of Ashihara Karate International was initially started with a limited number of students in 1985, creating its first dojo in Polgahawela, the home town of its branch chief, sensei Anil Hudasinghe.

By the mid of 1984, Sensei Anil did karate teaching in Polgahawela dojo as an assistant instructor, and later he was able to be an active member of the Sri Lanka branch of the International Ashihara Kai- Kan (NIKO) organization, and in 1985 the dynamic style of Ashihara Karate was first introduced by him to his organization of followers of his hometown.

According to the official recommendation by the late Europe Chairman, Shihan David C. Cook, issued in the year 1994, Sensei Anil was assigned as the Sri Lanka Branch chief of Ashihara Karate International Organization and that was the seed of origin for the official establishment of Sri Lanka Branch Head Quarters of Ahihara Karate International in his hometown, Polgahawela, Sri Lanka.

The arrival of senior International Masters of Ashihara Karate, Shihan David C. Cook (Sweden) and Shihan D. M. Jonkers (Netherland) to Sri Lanka, in January of 1996, serving a new experience on advanced methods and techniques of Ashihara Karate, for the Sri Lankan Ashihara karate practitioners, was a remarkable milestone of our history.

Kaicho Hoosain Narker (South Africa) visited Sri Lanka, in the October of year 1998, giving a rare chance for the Sri Lankan Ashihara karate practitioners to gain a practical experience and knowledge on SABAKI techniques and motions. He was performing several introductory demonstrations on Ashihara Karate, visiting the martial art lovers from several provinces in Sri Lanka, and addressing them through the public media programs as well; leaving one more remarkable milestone of our tale of karate history.

From its humble beginning to the present day, the Sri Lanka Branch of Ashihara Karate has passed a turbulent path with infinite number of obstructions spread along the path of success, while giving birth to a talented team of Karate students comprising a team of senior Black Belters who continuously support the Branch chief in leading the Dojo move foreword.

But in many ways, this is still just the beginning ……….
